Assyrian – Culture and celebrations

1. Know the names of different traditional dances.
2. Student to know the steps of traditional dance.
3. Aim to perform the dance at an assembly or end-of-the-year celebration.

1. Match a picture to a key word.
2. Say key words in Assyrian.

This lesson plan on Assyrian New year is lesson plan 1 of 3. At the end of the lesson plan students will be able to:

• Understand What the Assyrian new year is and why it is celebrated
• The history behind the celebration.
• Know some keywords such as celebration, new year, parade, etc.  

Sample unit of work addressing the theme of Celebrations for year 3.   

This unit of work will allow students to develop the knowledge about significant celebrations and social events that occur during the year. Students will also learn and use vocabulary from the Assyrian and Chaldean Language throughout the unit, including birthday, celebration, event, national day, cultural, Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, Easter, Christmas etc. Lessons will link and can be taught in any order, depending on the time of the year. Teaching and learning activities are designed to help students construct understanding for deeper learning. A variety of tasks will be included, both in theory and practice to ensure students get a mix of activities that cater to their needs.
